I am buying my 6 year old lease car from Honda. Price is 3500. I can pay 2000 now and the rest over a few months. Honda HQ say they can’t handle it that way, local Honda says I need to to go to a credit union, I think. Any advice, friends?

From the research I’ve done, the rates seem quite a bit better than most other banks. Is there a downside to getting a home mortgage from a credit union? Why wouldn’t everyone do it if the rates are so much better?

I defaulted on a car loan (repo) from a credit union 4 1/2 yrs ago. They update this default pretty much every time someone runs my credit to make it look like it just happened. I know I owe the money and would pay if I could but is this really legal? What can I do about it?

I suspect that federally chartered credit unions have more restrictive ‘fields of membership’, but I haven’t found any documentation proving that.
